The City of Abbotsford’s Engineering and Regional Utilities Department is seeking a self-motivated, hard-working individual to join their team as a Truck Driver V – Collections (Garbage Collection) This is an auxiliary opportunity to provide additional coverage and vacation relief. This assignment is expected to be approximately 5 months.

This temporary assignment is 40 hours per week. Shifts are 8.5 hours, 5 days a week (Monday to Friday).

In this skilled role, you will be responsible for the operation of a complex sanitation co-collection truck (Automated Garbage Collection Truck) and a semi-automated bus stop garbage collection truck, under varying traffic and field conditions. Garbage, compost and recyclables carts are tipped using the automated arm of the truck along an assigned route and material is unloaded in approved areas, using equipment. You will also perform Street Operations duties including roadside clean-up and the use of a hand brush and chainsaw.

Your working knowledge of the methods, practices, and tools used in servicing and maintenance of such equipment will assist you in cleaning, checking and performing light service work on units driven on daily basis, including checking air brakes.

Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 high school diploma

Minimum of one years’ experience operating collection equipment or similar equipment requiring the same skillset

Valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence

Qualified candidates will be asked to submit a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.

This position is unionized, CUPE Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $29.73 to $34.93 plus a percentage in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and health benefits.

Please note this position is for a 5 month temporary assignment to provide coverage to the Collections division. Position will be 40 hours per week for the duration of the assignment. Due to the purpose of the position being to provide coverage for the team, time off will not be granted during the assignment.
