About The PositionLambton College invites applications from qualified and passionate individuals interested in teaching microbiology courses on a part-time basis for the School of Applied Science, Engineering Technology and Trades.

This is a part-time contract position which requires a flexible schedule and/or availability during weekdays. The role will commence September 2024 & is to be taught in-person on our Sarnia, ON campus.

Rate of pay is to be determined at time of hire in accordance with education & qualifications based on our classification form in the Collective Agreement.

Specific Accountabilities

Creating a positive teaching and learning environment

Preparing lesson plans and providing instruction using a variety of teaching techniques and current technologies that enhance student success;

Delivering courses in accordance with curriculum standards;

Preparing, administering, and grading assignments, quizzes, and examinations in a timely manner;

Monitoring student performance, maintaining progress reports and encouraging their success;

Consulting with colleagues as required;

Follow the Academic Calendar and other policies and procedures.

Qualifications

PhD or PhD Candidate in Microbiology

3 to 5 years Teaching experience at the post-secondary level is highly desirable

Background in theoretical, practical and applied concepts of microbiology including but not limited to: Fundamental aspects of microbial cell structure and function; Diversity of prokaryotic and eukaryotic microbial world and its importance to the environment; Usage of microorganisms in biotechnology, food and pharmaceutical industries

Specialization in infection control and immune responses is an asset

Demonstrated lab techniques including media preparation and sterilization, aseptic transfer of microorganisms, their growth, enumeration and control

Safe work procedures in a microbiology laboratory
