York University seeks an inaugural Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education (AD PGME). This is a rare opportunity to play a foundational leadership role within a new School of Medicine and a growing decanal team. The Associate Dean will lead the development of postgraduate medical education from the ground up, establishing the structures, systems, and culture that will define residency training tral to this role is building strong, trusted relationships with clinical partners, healthcare organizations, and communities across Ontario as the School launches and expands its distributed training model.
The Associate Dean will provide strategic, academic, and operational leadership for the design, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of residency programs, ensuring alignment with national accreditation standards and the School’s mission of social accountability. Working closely with senior academic leaders, Program Directors, and partners across the ICLN, the Associate Dean will advance competency-based medical education (CBME), lead accreditation processes, foster a learner-centred and inclusive training environment, and contribute to institutional planning and innovation across the medical education continuum.
The ideal candidate will be a respected academic physician and collaborative leader with significant experience in postgraduate medical education and academic medicine. They will bring a demonstrated track record of leadership in accredited residency programs, with deep knowledge of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and/or the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) accreditation standards and CMBE.
The successful candidate will have experience working within complex, distributed or community-based training environments, along with a strong record of teaching, scholarship, and program development. They will possess exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders across academic, clinical, and health system settings. A commitment to learner-centred education, continuous quality improvement, and equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenous engagement is essential.
An MD (or equivalent), eligibility for licensure in Ontario, and academic credentials suitable for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Clinical Professor are required.
This is a publicly advertised job posting for an existing vacancy. The Associate Dean, PGME will ideally take office in summer 2026 or as mutually agreed, with consideration of candidates beginning immediately.
