Position Title:
Assistant, Health & Safety (Co-op student)
Location:
Remote – option for hybrid.
New Westminster YMCA (620 Royal Avenue, New Westminster)
Travel as required for site visits and meetings within Greater Vancouver.
Terms:
Temporary (up to 6 months), Full-Time (35 hours per week)
Start Date:
As soon as possible
Rate:
$22.00 per hour
Reports to:
Manager, Health & Safety
Nature & Scope:
Working within the Health and Safety Department and under the direction of the Manager, Health & Safety, this role will assist with the ongoing improvement, maintenance, and implementation of YMCA BC’s Occupational Health and Safety Programs.
Major Responsibilities:
Participate in the planning and completion of various health and safety projects like Violence Prevention, First Aid, Emergency Preparedness, and Health & Safety procedures
Complete research and prepare summaries
Support completion of risk assessments, safe operating procedures, and safe work practices
Participate in site visits and support with outlining steps for corrective actions
Collaborate with safety team members to identify opportunities for improvement
Ensures adherence to all YMCA policies and procedures, and relevant health & safety legislation
Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications/Experience:
High School Diploma
Experience in Occupational Health & Safety is an asset
Enrolled in a recognized OHS Education Program at a Canadian Post-Secondary Institution
Attending full-time education and returning to studies or capstone project in the subsequent academic year
Strong ability to organize and prioritize work
Effective verbal and written communication
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to learn quickly and work independently
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
Ability to maintain accurate records and with attention to detail
In good standing in an Undergraduate Degree Program or Technical School Diploma Program
Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
Provide 3 professional references
