Job Title: Assistant Feedyard Manager
Location: Texas Panhandle
Reports To: Feedyard Manager
Job Summary
The Assistant Feedyard Manager supports the Feedyard Manager in overseeing daily feedyard operations to ensure cattle health, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and employee safety. This position plays a hands‑on role in cattle care, feeding operations, personnel supervision, and facility maintenance while serving as a key support resource for overall yard performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in overseeing daily cattle feeding, handling, and care activities
- Monitor cattle health and performance; help coordinate treatments with veterinary staff
- Support bunk management, feed delivery, and ration compliance
- Supervise employees as assigned, including training and daily work assignments
- Assist with employee scheduling and labor coordination
- Maintain accurate records for cattle inventory, health treatments, feed usage, and performance
- Ensure animal welfare standards and environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements are followed
- Assist with pen maintenance, equipment upkeep, and facility repairs
- Monitor yard conditions and report issues affecting cattle comfort or performance
- Communicate operational updates and concerns to the Feedyard Manager
- Step into leadership duties during the Feedyard Manager’s absence as needed
Required Qualifications
- Experience in cattle feedyard or livestock production operations
- Working knowledge of cattle health, nutrition, and handling practices
- Strong work ethic with attention to detail and follow‑through
- Ability to supervise employees and work effectively as part of a management team
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Basic computer skills for recordkeeping and reporting
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, wind, dust, and changing weather conditions
- Ability to walk pens and operate horses, ATVs, or equipment as required
- Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
- Willingness to work necessary hours, weekends, and holidays during peak operational periods
