Assistant Cook (Full Time) Jobs in Musquodoboit Harbour at uprooted market &cafe
We are looking for someone who is passionate about local food and excited about building a more vibrant and sustainable Eastern Shore.
Approximately 35hrs/week, must be available to work 8:30am to 4:30pm on weekdays, weekends required
Hourly Rate: $16 + tips
Start date – May 13th
Basic Job Requirements
Daily breakfast and lunch preparation
Peeling, chopping, bagging, freezing and preserving fruits and vegetables to reduce waste from market
Baking, cooking food from scratch, creating soups and salads with ingredients that are available and in season
Communicating with customers about buying local, and seasonality of products
Available to perform many different tasks during each shift
Prepare food to standard recipes or customized for customers, including recipe changes such as quantity of ingredients or substituted ingredients
Creativity and plating skills
Kitchen inventory and re-ordering
Cleaning including washing dishes, sweeping, mopping and cleaning tables
Delivering food to tables
Sorting garbage, recycling and compost
Knowledge of and experience with local ingredients considered an asset
Preparing take-home meals for freezer and keeping fridge stocked with to-go items such as sandwiches, salads and buddha bowls
Qualifications
Ability to learn quickly
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and request clarification when needed
Ability to work as part of a team
Previous kitchen experience and up to date Food Safety Certificate
Must be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs Grant
