Work Schedule: Monday – Friday; 6:30am – 3:00pm (40hrs per week)

Work Term: 4 Months (Sept. 2026 – Dec. 2026)

Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, with a commitment to transparency in our pay practices.
The hourly pay range for this position is $21.50 – $29.40. Individual pay within this range is determined by several compensable factors, including the year of study, type of academic program, and the number of prior co-op work terms completed.

Join Our Team as an Assistant CNC Operator – Day Shift (Co-op)!

The Assistant CNC Operator is responsible for setting up and performing basic maintenance of the CNC machine, following work orders to produce parts for our units according to S&C Safety Procedures and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up, adjust and operate CNC machine according to work orders and specifications.
  • Responsible for set up with minor program.
  • Use manual pump trucks, cranes (over head / jib) and lift devices as required to move material and finished product(s).
  • Monitor machine operation and perform trouble shooting tactics when necessary.
  • Ensure parts are manufactured in accordance with quality standards, target plans and verify correct run quantities.
  • Visually inspect parts after each machine cycle and perform inspections as required.
  • Optimize the running of parts to best take advantage of the machine’s operating time.
  • Filling out production boards with output for the shift as well as assisting in planning afternoon shift production.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area and follow organizational practices.
  • Strives for continuous improvement in all aspects of the work environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Perform all his duties following Health and Safety procedures, including but not limited to wear PPE, follow sanitization routines, etc.
  • What you’ll Need To Succeed:

  • Currently pursuing a post-secondary degree/diploma in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technician or related field in CNC Programming.
  • Enrolled and eligible for a 4 month Co-op work term starting in the Fall of 2026.
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment considered an asset.
  • Previous experience as a CNC Machine Operator considered an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to use caliper, micrometer, go no-go gauges, etc.
  • Excellent mechanical/mathematical aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement manufacturing principles considered an asset.
  • Physical Effort:

    Standing:
    All tasks are performed in a standing position with intermittent walking.

    • Lifting:
    Frequent lifting of items ranging in weight from 5 lbs to 20 lbs.

    • Walking:
    Occasional walking moderate distances (less than 1km).

    • Carrying:
    Frequent carrying of items ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 20 lbs.

    • Pushing:
    Occasional pushing of motorized material handling carts with loaded weights up to 1000 lbs.

    • Pulling:
    Occasional pulling of motorized material handling carts with loaded weights up to 1000 lbs.

    • Bending:
    Frequent bending and crouching to safely lift parts of various sizes and shapes.

    • Reaching:
    Continuous full range of motion from above the shoulders to below the knees.

    • Handling:
    Continuous handling of parts ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 20 lbs.
