Position Overview
1911 Gold Corporation is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Assay Laboratory Supervisor who is responsible for the safe, efficient, and accurate operation of the assay laboratory reporting to the Senior Metallurgist. This role oversees sample receipt, preparation, analysis, quality assurance, reporting, staffing, and equipment performance to ensure timely and reliable assay results that support production, metallurgical, geological, and operational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily assay laboratory operations to meet production and turnaround targets
- Champion compliance with 1911 Gold health, safety, environmental, and site policies
- Supervise, hire, train, and mentor technicians to ensure high performance and safety.
- Develop and implement laboratory procedures to meet site needs.
- Ensure analytical accuracy through strong QA/QC processes and data review
- Operate and maintain key analytical instruments including AAS, balances, and analyzers
- Review, validate, and approve assay data before release to internal stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, test results, logs, and reports in laboratory systems and reporting tools.
- Manage laboratory consumables, reagents, and inventory to support uninterrupted operations.
- Work closely with geology, metallurgy, process plant, and operations teams to align priorities and communicate results.
- Support audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen laboratory performance and compliance.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Experience & Skill Set
- Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry, Mineral Processing, or equivalent Process related degrees preferred.
- 5–8 years of experience in a base metals or gold mine assay laboratory
- Previous supervisory experience required
- Demonstrated capability in instrument maintenance and troubleshooting
- Strong knowledge of gold assay methods, QA/QC standards
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required
- Able to recognize occupational hazards and instigate safety precautions required
