Aquatic Leader – (Internal – #24/041) (Limited Duration)

Under the direction of the Aquatic Programmer, the Aquatic Leader is responsible for the supervision of Lifeguard/Instructional staff acting as mentor in their development. The incumbent will routinely instructleadershipprograms and staff in-service training ensuring established safety standards are met. In addition, the incumbent participates in program development andpromotion. While considerable judgment and independence of action of exercised withrespectto matters of a routine nature, difficult or unusual problems are referred to a supervisor.

Work performance is evaluated on the basis of effectiveness of services rendered and the quality of instructional programs provided to the public. Performs related duties.

Requirements:

Completion of Grade 12. NL award;
Current Lifesaving Swim Instructor and Life Saving Instructor award,Current Standard First Aid award,AND a minimum of any three of the following awards:

Lifesaving Swim Trainer

Apprenticeship Supervisor is an asset

Lifesaving Trainer

Apprenticeship Supervisor is an asset

NL Instructor

Apprenticeship Supervisor is an asset

Lifesaving First Aid Instructor

Apprenticeship Supervisor required

BCRPA Fitness Leader is an asset. Completion of a formalleadershipskills training program is an asset. Minimum of two years’ related experience and at least one year of supervisory experience in an aquatic environment. Considerable knowledge of Red Cross and Lifesaving Society programs, policies and general pool standards. Applied knowledgeable of aquatic standards (BC Health Act). Demonstrated ability to lead, train, supervise and evaluate staff.

Ability to define problems areas, establish work methods and monitor tasks. Exceptional ability to self-motivate and function with minimal direction meeting established timelines. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills. Excellent interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills. The ability to establish and maintainpositive workingrelationships with co-workers, City staff, members of the general public, and external agencies.

Ability to work within, and contribute to, acollaborative teamenvironment. Demonstrated commitment to customer service. Applied knowledge of WCB regulations and local pool policy with regards to chlorine gas and other types of emergency circumstances, and safe work practices. Knowledge of Work Safe BC regulations, occupational hazards and safe work procedures as it relates to the position, including but not limited to: bullying and harassment, working alone and other significant hazards.

Your regular and overtime hours of work will be scheduled by your supervisor.

The successful applicant must be able to maintain a clear police information check for offenses related to the position. A valid full privilege Class 5 BC driver’s license (or out of province equivalent) is required. This position is to backfill for the incumbent and expected to last longer than three (3) months.
