As our 1st Cook/Sous Chef at Market 49 Fine Foods, you will play a key role in supporting the head chef and owner in the development and execution of our culinary vision. Your creativity and culinary expertise will be instrumental in crafting high-quality frozen meals that highlight the unique flavors of local West Coast ingredients. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dedicated Sous Chef who is looking to contribute to the growth of a local company that prioritizes the use of fresh, local, and sustainable ingredients.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the head chef in the creation and refinement of frozen meal recipes
Oversee kitchen operations to ensure the highest standards of food quality, taste, and presentation
Work closely with local suppliers to source high-quality ingredients from within British Columbia
Efficient management of staff, fostering a collaborative and positive working environment
Contribute to menu planning, innovation, and the development of seasonal menu items
Actively participate in the preparation and execution of meals
Maintain strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards

Qualifications:

Previous experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar role
Culinary degree or equivalent experience; willing to train the right candidate
Strong knowledge of local West Coast ingredients and a commitment to sourcing from within British Columbia
Excellent leadership and communication skills
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment
Flexibility to work evenings, holidays, and occasionally on weekends as needed
Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is an asset but not required

Salary: $21.00-$25.00 per hour
