Your Opportunity:
Calgary Remand Centre (CRC) is a maximum security provincial correctional facility dedicated to providing patient centered and trauma informed care for adult individuals. Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Addiction Counsellor (AC) performs recovery focused addiction work in the major areas of treatment, prevention and community capacity building within a multidisciplinary team. The AC supports the treatment plan by performing an initial assessment of the client’s strengths, possible problems, extent of addiction, and potential for change. The AC role is responsible for providing education, leading therapy groups, and using appropriate, evidence-based intervention strategies and treatment approaches. The successful candidate will be able to inform clients about available programs and services and provide referrals when necessary. As well as create customized client plans based on client history, research, and evidence-based treatment.
Description:
As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor’s degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum of two years’ experience. Demonstrated leadership, organizational and clinical skills, in addition to being self-directed and able to work collaboratively in a team environment required. Emotional resilience and adaptability in a secure environment. Experience working with complex, vulnerable, or marginalized populations. BLS certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Calgary area resources. Experience working with Connect Care documentation.
