We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to support our finance team with day-to-day accounting tasks and payroll-related functions. The ideal candidate will assist with payroll processing, accounts payable and receivable, recordkeeping, reconciliations, and general administrative support in the accounting department. Payroll support is a common part of accounting assistant roles, including handling employee pay data, deductions, and payroll inquiries.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with processing payroll on a regular schedule, including data entry, verification of employee hours, and support for direct deposits and payroll records.
- Maintain accurate employee payroll information, including new hires, terminations, pay changes, deductions, and banking details.
- Respond to basic payroll-related questions from employees and escalate complex issues when needed.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice processing, payment tracking, and reconciliations.
- Reconcile bank statements, payroll records, and other financial transactions.
- Prepare and organize financial documents, reports, and filing systems.
- Assist with remittances, deductions, and payroll-related government reporting where required.
- Work closely with HR and finance teams to ensure payroll accuracy and timely processing.
Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business Administration, or related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or payroll support preferred.
- Knowledge of payroll processes, accounting principles, and financial recordkeeping.
- Proficiency with accounting software, payroll systems, and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with payroll software such as ADP, Ceridian.
- Knowledge of Canadian payroll practices and deductions.
- Familiarity with year-end payroll support, T4s, ROE's, and remittances.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
