Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled 5 Ton Truck Driver to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for transporting goods safely and efficiently while adhering to all traffic laws and regulations. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, excellent driving skills, and the ability to handle various types of freight.
Responsibilities
- Operate 5 ton dry van / reefer trucks to transport goods in the Vancouver Island area.
- Must live in Victoria.
- Operate manual and electric pallet jacks safely.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safety and compliance.
- Load and unload freight, ensuring proper handling and securing of cargo.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery times.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and other team members regarding delivery schedules and any issues that arise during transport.
- Adhere to all local, municipal, and federal driving regulations.
- Manage routes efficiently to minimize delays and ensure timely deliveries.
- Ability to obtain a Dangerous Goods (DG) ticket
- Clean driver’s abstract
Skills
- 2+ years of experience driving dry vans or reefer 5 ton trucks.
- Experience operating electric pallet jacks and electric rail/tail gates.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license with air brake endorsement is required.
- Proficiency in operating heavy equipment and commercial vehicles.
- Strong knowledge of freight handling procedures.
- Basic automotive repair skills for troubleshooting minor vehicle issues on the road.
- Experience operating forklifts for loading and unloading freight is a plus but not required.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with clients, dispatchers, and team members effectively.
- Strong problem-solving abilities to address challenges that may arise during transportation.
