The Schulich School of Education in the Faculty of Education and Professional Studies at Nipissing University invites applications for 2 (two) Limited-term (10 months) Appointment (LTA) positions with a specialization in Curriculum Design, Assessment and Evaluation, or Science Education. These positions are in North Bay, Ontario.

This includes expertise in one or more of the following areas:

curriculum design (e.g., lesson/unit/long-range planning);

assessment, evaluation, and communication (reporting) of student learning at the elementary and secondary school levels;

teacher as researcher (e.g., Action Research)

environmental and sustainability education

STEM education (science/technology focus)

secondary science education subjects (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics)

elementary science education.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of educational theory (e.g., social-emotional learning, inclusive pedagogy, Differentiated Instruction, Universal Design for Learning), as reflected throughout the current K-12 Ontario Curriculum documents.

Candidate Qualifications Include

Completion or near completion (i.e., ABD) of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Education or a closely related field.

Certification as a registered teacher with their respective licensing authority (e.g., Ontario College of Teachers) is an asset.

A demonstrated exemplary record of teaching at the elementary and/or secondary level(s) is required.

Promise of research is expected and research experience is considered an asset.

The successful candidate will have a workload that will include some of the following courses:

Position 1 – 10 Month, LTA (Curriculum/Assessment)

Introduction to Curriculum Design and Teaching (EDUC 4736)

Assessment, Evaluation and Communication of Student Learning (EDUC 4746)

Curriculum Design and Inquiry (EDUC 4756)

Position 2 – 10 Month, LTA (Science Education)

Science and Technology for the Primary and Junior Divisions (EDUC 4767)

Science General, Intermediate (EDUC 4808)

Science and Technology for the Junior and Intermediate Divisions (EDUC 4847)

The successful candidate will also be actively engaged in research, scholarly and/or creative activity and will contribute to university service.

The Schulich School of Education is one of six prestigious Schulich Schools that have been established in Canadian universities through the generous benefaction of Dr. Seymour Schulich. Teacher education in the North Bay area has enjoyed a rich history stretching back 115 years, beginning as the North Bay Normal School (1909), then becoming the North Bay Teachers’ College (1953), a Faculty of Education within Nipissing University (1973), and finally the Schulich School of Education (2010).
